Concept Urban Development Plan larger Leeuwenburg area approved

In 2020, the municipality of Amsterdam approved the Concept Urban Development Plan for the larger Leeuwenburg area and made it public for consultation.

This milestone is the result of months of hard work done by Vastint Netherlands in close cooperation with the municipality.

The Concept Urban Development Plan concerns a larger area, of which Vastint Netherland’s redevelopment project Leeuwenburg is part of. That whole area – including one of the most important public transport hubs in the Netherlands – will be redeveloped and densified in years to come. The plan includes the addition of up to 2,100 homes, up to 94,000 m2 office area, 7,500 m2 of amenities and 15,000 m2 of new greenery.

Leeuwenburg’s contribution to that will be around 400 homes, approx. 52,000 m2 of high class office space and public amenities on the ground floor. Vastint Netherlands is planning to partly demolish and rebuild the existing building and partly redevelop it. In total, the new building will hold approx. 88,000 m2, doubling the current volume.

Currently the building offers a gross floor area of approx. 42,000 m2 above ground, making it one of the largest buildings in Amsterdam. The building is fully leased to Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences) until September 2022.
