Phase 3: the façade dismantling

We are pleased to provide you with an update on the progress of our work on the redevelopment of Weesperzijde 190.

After the successful completion of phase 1, the circular selective demolition, we have been working on phase 2, asbestos removal, since December 2023. These activities are proceeding according to schedule and are expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once phase 2 is completed, we will start with phase 3: the façade dismantling.

As part of the redevelopment, the current façade will eventually be replaced with a new one (expected to start in early 2026). The new façade will respect the current brutalist architecture while also being suitable for future-proofing and making the building more sustainable. We will provide further information on this later this year during an information session that has yet to be scheduled.

Test Demolition of Façade Elements
As a preliminary study, we will soon begin a test demolition of up to six façade elements on the second through fifth floors. This test demolition is necessary to understand how the façade elements are attached and to ensure that the final dismantling can be carried out safely and efficiently.

Schedule and Location
The test demolition will start on Monday, September 16, and will take approximately one week. The work will take place between 07:00 and 17:00. A mobile crane on our construction site will be used to carefully remove the façade elements and place them in a container (also on our site). The red-marked area on the image above shows the location of the test demolition.

What to Expect from the Test Demolition
The work may cause some noise disturbance, as the concrete façade elements need to be separated from the concrete floor. Since there are still asbestos-containing glue residues on the inside of the façade elements, the work will be carried out by specialized workers in protective white suits. This is important to ensure safety. We adhere to strict legal regulations. SGI Compliance Consultancy, an external agency that monitors regulatory compliance, will supervise multiple times
