Strip-out work to start soon

Vastint Netherlands B.V. has contracted Bnext.nl Sloopwerken BV for the strip-out work in Weesperzijde 190. They will start in November by removing all the fixtures and fittings in the existing building. From doors to toilet bowls, and from reception desks to ceiling panels, everything will be stripped out of the building. In addition, all existing systems such as the heating system will be removed. In the building, as many materials and components as possible will be stripped out to be reused in the building itself or elsewhere. The remaining materials will be taken away for recycling. This work is expected to take until the end of May 2023.

Circular approach

Following the circular setup in the construction site with a second-hand site hut and site fencing with reused wood, the strip-out work in the building will also be tackled in a circular manner. Vastint and Bnext expect to find a new use for around 95% of the materials they remove from the building. The materials may be reused immediately on the site or elsewhere, such as a glazed partition wall, or they can be repurposed. Hardwood frames can be cleaned, planed and processed to form the basic material for new hardwood frames. Immediate reuse of materials leads not only to a significant reduction in the use of new raw materials, but also to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. Old materials do not need to be recycled (or even incinerated) and new products do not need to be produced. Naturally this will not be possible everywhere in the building, and so recycling of other materials such as glass fibre, metals, wood and glass does of course offer a golden opportunity to make raw materials for new products.

Working approach

The work will take place inside the building during this phase, so is expected to cause minimal disruption to the surrounding area. During our work, however, there will be regular transport to deliver and remove building materials. We will endeavour to do this outside peak times as far as possible. The goods vehicles and work buses will access the site via the rear of the building (Amstel station side).
